Honda Expands Recall of Shrapnel-Spewing Air Bags to California

There have been recent reports that Honda is asking its car dealerships to have consumers sign additional disclosure forms concerning 2001 – 2011 Honda and Acura models. The disclosure relates to serious problems with airbags, in which they can rupture with too much force when a crash occurs. When this happens, they spew metal chunks at whomever happens to be driving the vehicle and can cause serious injuries.  The disclosures supposedly alert potential buyers to this problem. It’s about time.

Honda-brand affected vehicles include: 2001-07 Accord with four-cylinder engines; 2001-05 Accord with V-6 engines; 2001-05 Civic; 2002-06 CR-V; 2003-11 Element; 2002-04 Odyssey; 2003-07 Pilot; and 2006 Ridgeline. Also included from Acura are the 2003-06 MDX, 2002-03 TL and CL and 2005 RL.

If you are currently shopping for a reliable used vehicle, always take care to read all of the forms a used car dealership asks you to sign. If you are looking to purchase a used Honda or Acura, be particularly mindful of which model you are purchasing to avoid getting stuck with a car that may have a serious safety issue. To read more about the issues Honda and Acura are having with these airbags, and the scope of its recall efforts, simply click on this link.
